The Things We Treasure Most are Taken Away Too Soon

continued from "A Zen Morning" (click here to read)

.......But the things we treasure most are taken away from us much too soon.

We're so busy making a living that we don't take the time to live.

We're so busy searching for and trying "to get" true love for ourselves that we don't take the time "to give" our truth and love (our best selves) out into the world.

We're so busy pursuing material things that we neglect the true love already in our lives by either not recognizing what we have right in front of us or not appreciating what we have until it's gone.

Harry Chapin's song "Cat's in The Cradle" used to resonate and reververate in my soul even as a young boy while listening to it in the car next to my father.

For those of you unfamilar with the song, it is about a father who is too busy to spend time with his son. As the son grows older, he admires his father and wants to grow up in his image. After the son becomes a man, the father is eager to spend time with him, to make up for lost time. However, the son now claims that he is too busy with his own work and family to spend time with his father. Sadly, the father discovers that his son has grown up to be just like him, in the sense that the father chose not to make time for his son, and so his son is doing the same to his father now.

In truth, it's impossible to make up for lost time, because once time is gone, that time is lost forever. There will never be another moment exactly as this one to take advantage of.

The NOW is all we have, and all we ever have any control over; to be honest, loving, good, appreciative, etc........(continued in "The NOW is All We Have - click here to read)

A Zen Morning

Another morning where I refused to get out of bed. But this time it was because I couldn't unwrap my arms from my children, who spent the night with me. So I waited until the very, very, very last second to get up, then I waited some more.

There really is something amazing and magical about amazingly real love, or "true love" as its known by its nickname. As adults we search all our lives for its highest form, calling it zen, peace, harmony, soulmate, etc. And we dream of arriving at the end of our lives forever surrounded by it in places we call Shabala, Nirvana, Heaven, etc.

This morning I woke up in all of these places, feeling all of these things. And all I wanted to do was to be allowed to stay there in it.
