The First Day of Summer Vacation - 2009

Today was the first day of summer vacation (Thursday, June 4).

Instead of rushing off to school to get Dad's classroom clean, we started the summer off right by taking a morning walk together.

Talking about all the things we were going to do,

All the adventures we were going to have,

and all the stories we were going to write......

KNOWING we were actually going to do all these things,

because we all did things during the school year that we said we were going to do

And instead of just making it through another year

We and those around us became more of all the good things we already are

and became really good at some things we used to be really bad at.

Like usually being the last teacher to clean my room and turn in all the paperwork

By the end of this day I was one of the first and finished a day early

Something I've never done before

which means I've become more than I've ever been before

and did it without stressing myself out or you kids

We even had time to say Good Morning to Ms. Elizabeth on her way to work.

Do you kids know what a positive and powerful difference you make in this world?

I do, and I think it's beautiful and wonderful

and I KNOW it's going to be a beautiful and wonderful summer

On the way home I heard this song and remembered dancing to it with my Dad in the garage during a break home from college.

2,500 years ago Lao Tsu said, "The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step."

This year has definitely been another journey of 1,000 miles.....with every step forward taken out of love, and passion, and purpose......with each step leading us to a better and brighter world
